Digging/scratching?

scrapulous Aug 16, 2006 11:05 PM

Hi, My beardie is about 14 months old. This evening when I went to feed him, he was under his hide, so I just put his bowl of greens in the tank. But I noticed he had white powdery stuff around him, so I lifted his hide, and he has scratched the white shelf liner substrate all up under his hide. He just did this today for the first time. I've had him since October. So, is he tryin to dig under to brumate? Isn't it too early in the year for him to brumate? Or is there some other explanation? When I lifted his hide, he did eat and then went to his perch, as normal.

Is it possible he managed to get under his hide, then found himself stuck, so tried to dig himself back out again?
Just a thought?

I didn't even think of that. Hmmm. I guess I'll buy him a bigger hide and see how that goes. Thanks!

My male cools himself constantly and goes into like mini brumations, they don't happen long and don't last long, I think he's trying to cool his sperm down so he's able to reproduce longer. Just a thought but he does dig...he kicks out all of the sand under the hide and makes himself a nest....maybe that's whats he's doing?????

my dragons will do that.....scratch, scratch and scratch some more...it almost seems like they are trying to make a bed or something more comfortable. chaulk up one more down side to shelf-liner....it's like sleeping on the floor...lol
