Whites & White Lipped?

froggiefriend Aug 17, 2006 09:34 AM

A friend of mine purchased 2 white lipped tree frogs as a surprise gift for me. Unfortunately, one passed away only 2 days after I got him, and now I have one teeny tiny little frog in a 45 gal tank! I really want another Dumpy, but they're so much bigger than the white lipped and I don't know if they could be housed together(?) Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of the compatibility of the two?

I don't have experience in this myself but I could swear that I did read that the only ones that could be put together was those two. However you would always need to keep them at the same size. The whites will eat anything smaller than they are. I don't know how you would be able to make sure of that unless they were both already full grown.

I'm like you in that I would always want more than one, so they have a friend. I have been assured that they don't need one, they are just competition for food. So you could just have the one and he'd be fine.

I agree. You need to do research on both frogs, since the white-lipped need slightly different care than the white's. Talking about humidity, heat. Things like that. They do get to be about the same size really, but it is always better to start off with just one type of frog in your tank. If you want more, get more white lipped frogs! (quarantine first!)
