Leo egg's dying off...HELP!

snakestackerstu Aug 17, 2006 11:24 AM

Please help. All of my Leo egg's are dying off. Some look good at the beginning, I candle them and I can see the embryo. Some look bad, yellow with nothing showing at candling. All of them mold over and rot within a few weeks. They come from four different males and eleven different females. All are incubated at 84 degrees for the first 3 weeks and then up to 90 degrees for the remainder. Incubation takes place in a shoe box with perlite as a base and peat moss on top that they are settled into. Any ideas.........? What am I doing wrong????? All of the adults were even brumated!!!!!! Mealworms, calcium, water all available at all times. Pinkies twice a month for all interested.

Thanks Stu

I think its a little to much humidity to much....they mold....to little they sag....and die. you have to play around with the humidity to get it right.

The yellow ones are not fertile and usually will mold quickly.
You also may be killing them with a sudden temp jump at 3 weeks.
Severe Temp fuctuation can kill the embro and cause deformities.
I know of quite a few breeders that had those results when trying to incubate useing that method.

It is probably holding too much water.

Have you breed Leos before? Why would you breed 11 females and no experience?

It is easy to get overwhelmed as a beginner and it's always the Leo's that suffer.
