dragon with nasty tempermant

dragonking24 Aug 17, 2006 03:03 PM

HEy i got a criss allen red baby from the fire expo over a month ago. ANd she still hasnt adapted to me. She does great when shes in her cage. Her temps are at about 105 on her basking side and between 85=90 on her cool side. I use a 100 watt powersun bulb and shelf liner. She eats crickets every mon wed and fri with calcium and vitamin supplements. then on tues and thurs she eats a mix of various greens. But when i go to hold her she puffs out opens her mouth and hisses. ANd she will actually bite me she has before. But the thing is that i hold her once a day for 10-15min and once i have her shes ok with it but the next day she goes into her aggresive behavior. ITs real weird cause all my other dragons had no problem with me and never bite me. P.S. she poos everyday even sometimes twice a day. ANy advice?

You might want to try hand feeding her...after awhile she might associate you hand and/or your presence in front of the cage as something thats good and non threatning.

i used to have a dragon like that, its all about siting there for an hour each day, when ever u put ur hand in the tank do it slowly and let her see ur hand, dont startle her, if she shows the beard leave ur hand in the same place till she calms down (if she goes to bite move away) when she relizes its not a threat pet the bottom of her chin and reward her with her fav treat my case raseberrys, after a week or so of showing her a hand is nothign to be scared of she should be semi calm she still might try to move out of the way, so keep that up every day 2 to 3 times a day, till she sees ur hand and tastes it with out a problem then move on to handleing, cause by what u said, shes only calm during handleing cause shes prob a bit nervios ina sence, thenstart handleing her in her cage so if she feels scared she can jump back in her basking spot and chill, keep this going till she will be 100% ok with handling, always give her a treat make her learn shes not a goldfish she will remember

p.s. sorry for bad spelling

Does this really work, as I have a similar prob with my new beardie.
Don't think he was handled much at his previous home. Turns his beard black even when u just look through the glass at him. Once he's out his beard stays black till i put him back in the viv.
Willing to try anything as i don't want to keep a dragon i can't handle because he has a problem with it.
Thanx
