natural sunlight

jbmac Aug 04, 2003 08:38 AM

On a nice hot day, has anyone ever put their anole(s) outside to get some natural sunlight? I have read about this idea quite a few times. Although i have some queries.
1. Is it not stressful for the lizard when being moved outside?
2. What method would you use to move the anole outside and then back inside later?
3. Once outside it will be able to eat insects etc that it comes accross, but will it eat wasps and bees etc? These are dangerous to the anole arn't they?
4. is the anole likley to travel accross the ground or would it be more likely to stay in a small tree?

Do you think that anoles should be put outside when conditions are appropriate for them to get some natural sunlight?

Could you please answer these questions with the idea that the anole is a green anole(anolis carolinensis).

Thanks very much

Well thinking of a field trip for your anole. Well you would def. have to keep it in a cage.. it would not just stay in a tree... it would run off! I myself have delt with anoles for over 23 years, I also live in florida. So letting an anole go outside here is fine, but it of coourse would run off. If you are thinking about it spending some time out side, you should consider some things. Do you have a screen cage? A glass tank could quickly over heat the reptile ( like a car would over heat a human or dog or anything else alive in it) Anoles die quickly when they overheat. Do you have ants? Fire ants will make quick work of anything in a cage they can get too, and you cant use poison to control them around the anole either. Any ants will cause havoc.Birds? cats? anything that can be a danger to your anole. I myself keep cuban Knight anoles which are quit large and easy to manage but when i do have a few anoles i let they hang out on a curtain that the suns coming in through and let them bask. My knight anoles go outside with me but i never let them on the ground or out of my hands, which wouldnt work for a green anole. Hope this helps
