I'm freaking out please help!!!!!!

devilish1182 Aug 17, 2006 06:34 PM

I took in this iguana last winter and he seemed to be doing just fine. I posted in here a while after i got him to get some general advice that worked out well. I walked in his cage earlier to change his food and water and noticed that he is missing all of the toes on his back left foot!!! What is wrong with him? he is still able to climb and move around well but this absolutely caught me off guard and i started freaking out thinking he is very sick or something. I can only get an apointment with the herpetologist on tuesdays, do i need to go ahead and make an appointment with him? Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you saying they are just missing--healed already? You just noticed them missing. Or are they just torn off--bloody? If bloody or current wounds then I would definitely take him to a qualified reptile vet. If he lost them due to weak bones then that is serious. But if it is one foot he may have got his foot stuck somewhere. You'll need to check his enclosures for dangers.

What UVB lighting do you use?--type, brand, make.
What are his temps?--basking, ambient, nighttime.
What is his diet?

Again it is best to eliminate medical problems now.

It also could have been from unshed skin that formed a ring around his toe that never came off. As he got bigger they could have cut off the bloodflow in his toes.
