...and was looking for tips on any good herping spots. I would love to find a rubber boa but I am not sure how prevalent they may be this time of year. I will be sure to take pics and post them here...Any info would be great.

You are correct in that mid summer during warm to hot weather is the second worst time of year to conduct daytime searches for most species of herps, the Rubber Boa included.

I live in Corvallis 85 miles south of Portland and have a huge advantage as I have sites set up with artificial cover in the form in roofing tins and plywood. I normally do not go out at this time of year as for the most part I am wasting my time. A researcher in another state has requested some S. All. Lizards.
During a couple of days of overcast conditions and some rain, I twice made visits to two sites that have very healthy populations
of SALs. Zip as far as SALs but did observe a few gopher snakes, couple of racers, several gravid female northwestern garter snakes and 4 boas.

Your best bet would be to cruse back roads at night east of Portland. If you drive about 45 miles to ZigZag on highway 26 toward Mt. Hood, take roads either to the north or south that travel through areas that have timber harvests and clearing as such habitat is prime for the Rubber Boa and other local reptiles.
