emergency food for hatchling!! HELP!!!

mchiara Aug 17, 2006 09:06 PM

Hi,

surprisingly, I have one hatchling from Sunshine's first clutch. I saw so many eggs get moldy lately that I thought that was actually not a good batch of eggs or, very likely, I did something wrong with the incubation. Anyway, I checked the eggs tonight and I have found the fist baby....now, I have been cought off guard, don't have fruit flies at hand. I have just placed an order, but 'cause of the week end I am not going to get anything until tuesday (today is Thursday). I don't know for sure how long ago the baby really hatched, last time I checked the eggs was 4-5 days ago.

Can anybody help giving me information on who could ship flies same day??!!

The baby is now alive and climbing on the branchs, responsive but the eyes are closed. I tried to clean them and it was trying to open one...is it a sign of a problem?

I wouldn't get to worried in my experiance they can go the first few days without food do to still living off the egg sac. I know I've been caught off gruad and had to wait a week before food came, I just kept them well hydrated.

Not sure what to tell you about the eyes.

You can feed the chameleon pinhead crickets too. You might have more luck finding them in a petstore near you than fruit flies.

Find a local college with a genetics dept. They throw out thousands of fruit flies daily. I do it all the time. Sometimes, you can find flightless flies.

check with them they normally have furit flies, at least mine does.

Well id admit that i dont like buying from Petco and avoid the place as often as i must.....They do provide fruit flies there.

Since this is classified as an emergency, i say its worth a shot.

they are selling Timberline ff though and they are a good company so it is a TINY improvement. I had to buy some frog stuff the other day and had no other choice - except WalMart and I will NOT shop there. I miss the days where none of this mattered b/c businesses generally had decent ethics and policies...heavy sigh :-/

Glad to hear of someone else who refuses to shop at Walmart. That place is disgusting....the old saying holds true....you get what you pay for!

PS. I hope the hatchling is doing fine.

thank you for your answers.

The baby is still fine this morning. Rolls the eyes underneath the eyes but doesn't open them. I know the opening is in there since yesterdayt I could see it when I was cleaning the eyes form the vermiculite....weird. for horses is " No foot, no horse" for cham could be " NO eye, no cham.".....
