My leo makes a weird sound

katykd Aug 18, 2006 01:18 PM

Hi,
I noticed that my female leo started to make a weird sound. It was about a month ago and now I hear her almost every day! That looks like squeak or cough.I have her for over two years since she was a hatchling and she never done that before.
Is that normal? What is it?

Thanks

Is she getting scared by something? They can make a kind of squeaky-growling noise if they feel threatened. It's part of their defense mechanism used to startle potential predators and buy them time to get away.

Not at all! She never does it while I hold her or when she is out of her tank. She always does it inside her tank, just suddenly I hear a squeak/cough.
Is there something wrong with her? I'm a little concern if that is not a case of kind of respiratory infection or something?
thank you

I would heat the tank to a warmer temp, and keep the humidity relatively high. She may have a respiratory infection, if this warming of the enclosure additional humidity doesn't help her "cough" I'd bring her to a vet asap. Keep the temp in the high 80's low 90's on the hot side of the enclosure, and mist the enclosure well a few times a day. Hope this helps you.

Thank you so much for your advice!
I thought it's warm enough in the room during the summer so I turned off the undertank heater, I tried to moist daily and provide water dish but it seems she needed to warm her belly also.
I didn't hear her to "cough" for couple of days now.
thanks a lot!!
