I think I've read various suggestions such as a bleach/water solution, hot water and soap, etc. Does it matter which I use?
What about a bleach water solution in a spray bottle and just doing a spray-n-wipe?

I use an antiseptic called Virosan, diluted in water. I do spray-and-wipe on cages, cage furniture, water bowls, etc. If something is "seriously" dirty, I usually soak in Virosan solution and/or hot soapy water. You can buy Virosan from Pro Exotics, and can read about it at www.proexotics.com/supplies.html. It has worked for me very well, and I feel much more confident about it than about bleach solutions.
Wow thanks! It sounds great. I think I'll check it out.
Well, hot water soap is use to trap partical like urine or other partical and then you wash it away. It doesn't disinfect the cage. You should hot water and detergent with disinfectant that will kill bacterias and viruses. Bleach solution is a good one, but make sure you dilute it properly and rinse the cage well. There is another one that is very good for disinfectin and it's very safe. Infact they use to clean wound on amphibians...I think it's called Novalson ( spelling ) or something like that. I'm sure the post will tell you. Anyway check out Melissa Kaplin's website. She has good article on cleaning and disinfecting your pet's cage.
