Herb,

Sorry to hear about the death of your female Texas Indigo. Its always sad and hard to accept when an animal dies and we can do little to prevent it. Congrats! on your new offspring! How many were produced in the clutch? Congrats! again.

*Cheers*

I hope the other two come out females for you!

She laid three eggs before she died. Two have hatched, this one is doing good the other one has a bit of belly-button is still exposed a bit so we had a couple of stiches put in, so far so good. The 3rd egg still hasn't hatched, any suggestions? Should we leave it alone or what.

Herb,

I would leave it alone. I was advised not to mess with mine. All 6 of my viable eggs hatched without any assistance.

Good luck on your next task FEEDING them.

Hope the last two are females for you….Dan

Thanks for the advice, I told Herb to leave the egg alone (Tracy,Herb's wife). Any suggestions on feeding? We usually feed f/t to all of our newbies and usually no problems (bulls, gophers, beautys, pines, garters, milks and kings) but from what I here Indigos are another story.

At least from my limited experience. Out of a clutch of 9 all but 1 of mine took off eating f/t pinks with no tricks at all. They could have started on fuzzies right away.

That last one has been a real pain though. She finally ate her first meal (a f/t fuzzy) a couple of nights ago.

I hope you have good luck with yours as well.

I would start with just pinks F/T and live for the first several attempts like Mike did. If that fails then move on to scenting.

I have Easterns no Tex Indies. The Easterns can test your patience’s. I have had a time with a couple of them. I did have two starts with fish scented pinks and are now doing fuzzies. Frog scent was a hit with the others but only after several attempts. Most have shed twice now.

Starting Eastern babies can make you cuss but once started the swearing will stop.

Good luck with that last egg.

I have found erebennus and couperi to be the two easiest members of teh Dry clan to start feeding, with rubidus following a somewaht distant third, melanurus a distant fourth and unicolor just nudging ahead of corais for fifth and sixth. Might have an opportunity to work with orizabensis in the near future and it will be interesting to see how they start feeding, more on that later..

Best regards,

Jeff
