Hermanns Growth Comparison if it helps

nimmerfroh Aug 19, 2006 12:42 AM

I once saw a picture of a tortoise on a standard playing card to show size so I thought it would be a good way to track growth. Here is my Eastern Hermanns Tort at roughly 3mo, 7mo, and 1 year old. She (just a wild guess on the gender) always had a slightly skewed shell curvature but never cared - no other torts around to make fun of her.

Looking at the full size picture makes her look big on that 10 of diamonds but she's still just a little runt. Anyone else do something similar to track size?

It might be simple, but it's a great idea (the best ones always are), and I'm going to start that for my horsfield and my ibera. Knowing the SCL measurement, etc. doesn't give you the same visual record. Many thanks.

Great idea!

I trace their outline in a notebook when I get a new one then about twice a year after that.

Last October I got a year old Hermanns & it showed no signs of growth until about a month ago. Now there's a bright ring around her middle & between the scutes.

that's a cute picture! i buy the spring salad mix also, for the variety of greens.

kind of makes me think of how you get a bug in stuff like that once in a blue moon... only bigger and cuter!
