Thinking of trying to breed some nice BP's this season (advice again please)

Damon Aug 04, 2003 10:19 AM

Hey guys I have been thinking of maybe breeding my ball pythons for the first time this coming season. I am so excited I can barely wait anymore.

I weighed all the snakes yesterday and looks like I will have a total of 5 out of 46 females to make my first attempt.

I've never done this before, so any advice would be great.

Here are the girls :

2001 FEMALE 1875 GRAMS (possible HET albino)
2001 FEMALE 1725 GRAMS (CLARK HET albino)
2001 FEMALE 1720 GRAMS (VPI HET albino)
2002 MALE ALBINO 820 GRAMS (off feed for the past 2-months)

Second group :

I know these snakes are young so these are even more in question.

2002 FEMALE 1785 GRAMS (normal captive hatched)
2002 FEMALE 1530 GRAMS (normal captive hatched)
2002 MALE PASTEL 580 GRAMS (off feed for past 2-months)

These females are young but there RAT feeders, have excellent heavy body weight and are not skinny in any way. The Pastel male is in serious question, although I read on the NET that some males will go at 600 grams?

Any opinions would be great, If you remember a while back I was 3-years into a burmese python (high end morphs) project, I finally had 2 monster females ready to go, one actually bred, both died from cronic RI infections, gave away the remaining animals because I was so disgusted.

I am a little under 6 years of waiting to produce my own baby snakes! It's really getting hard to wait.

Thanx for reading.

Go for it man...... the albino male is so ready....those females are all ready.... Even the 2002 girls.....The pastel male might go........Put him in with the normal girls.......whats the worst that can happen??????? Its time for you to spread those wings!!!!! Keep feeding them and when the time comes this fall they will make you proud......You'll thank me next summer when you see those yellow and white heads peaking out of the eggs.
