basking spot for common snapper

start2finish01 Aug 19, 2006 02:30 AM

I have a yearling common snapper and my question is, do I need to provide my turtle with a basking area? What is a good way to provide that, being that these guys are pretty destructive? I've tried once before, but my turtle doesn't seem to like to bask. Thanks.

well, as i guess noone else is going to answer this (shame on the snapper forum) I guess I will give it a shot.

Though your turtle may not bask ever, there is a good chance it may. For mine atleast it seemed to be a sesonal thing, with more basking in the winter, but that may just be a response to me letting the tanks cool to the lower room temperature.
so yes, give it a basking spot if it is reasonable.

As for the specifics, I really couldent say without knowing more about your current set up. With turtles that can push stuff around so much i would lean towards a piece of driftwood or just a stick, because then you dont run so much of a risk of pinning the turtle.

well, sorry this is so useless, but oh well.
