How can I resist?

el_toro Aug 19, 2006 12:06 PM

This is the face I was greeted with this morning - "Please, Miss, may I have some more?"

She's sitting in her worm bowl, of course.

She's been a little weird lately, actually - she refuses to eat crickets. She'll eat any kind of worm I offer, but no crickets. Any thoughts?

That pic was brilliant....

About the worms....Funnily enough mine dont eat anything that doesnt hop or run at warp speed, or fly. Mealies, WAX WORMS would you believe, anything similar they look at you as if to say "What do you expect me to do with that?"

My mum-in-law has beardies and if you offer them wax worms they refuse to eat anything else for days on end. Since being fed hoppers they refuse to eat crickets too. Now their diet consists of hoppers, mealies, the odd wax worm and their usual veggies....but no crickets, they seem to understand and panipulate the fact that if they dont eat em they'll be given something nicer eventually.

She did stop eating the crickets after I offered her waxworms for the first time. She hasn't seen a waxie in days - I've been offering crickets daily (that she won't eat) and mealworms and phoenix worms, both of which she eats right away. Little spoiled punk!

Maybe you could try other stuff to get them off the wax worms, I bought some "Castors", fly pupae from the local fishing shop and let them hatch in the viv, they went wild for freshly hatched flies, though only a few. The anoles went crazy for them too

Thanks for the ideas! I've used flies for my anoles before - they love them! They're quite amazing acrobats when chasing the flying insects!

She finally agreed to eat crickets for breakfast this morning - had a few this afternoon, too, before refusing. I'm hopeful that this means she'll be back to eating anything that moves.

sitting there with that cute face of hers, LOL Hey Torey some of mine will not touch crickets, very picky indeed.
I just try and feed my superworms and things really well so they are nutritious.

Are you offering her small crickets? The reason I ask is some collareds prefer/ OR should I say seem to get more excited over a larger sized cricket, gets their attention.

Try house spiders, and moths, they love them. Do you have any grasshoppers around your yard? My yard never gets treated with insecticides, but we just don't seem to ever get grasshoppers around here maybe one or 2 a season.

Thanks, Eve! If she continues to be fussy, I'll branch out some more. She liked silkworms, too, but they outgrow her SO quickly it's hardly worth it. I use the same crickets I feed the anoles, so they're fairly small. We don't have grasshoppers here, alas - a million every square mile where I grew up, but none here.
