another far-out theory....(basic triv)

JETZEN Aug 19, 2006 02:45 PM

F.N.Blanchard claims that L.g.getula evolved from L.g.niger (nigra) i believe this and i believe that coastal L.g.getula are a seperate sub from nigra and more inland L.g.getula may not be so pure. Any opinions?

"Blanchard(1921)postulated that L.g.getulas was derived from L.g.niger by expansion of the light dorsal bands and that L.g.floridana evolved from L.g.getulas by a basal lightining of each dark scale" from the Blaney paper 1977

floridana evolved from splendida which crossed exposed land between west and east b/4 the big glacier melt down

Yucatan penn. and the Florida penn.

>>Yucatan penn. and the Florida penn.

Kind of doubt that - the Gulf of Mexico gets real deep in the Yucatan Channel.

Theorizing about whicn king evolved from which is useless without some data to test the theory. This is one of those questions where DNA might be of some value. It would be interesting to trace the linage back to the most basic Lampropeltis getulus ssp. Just to make it even more interesting, throw in Triangulum sp!

during that ice age b/4 the big glacial melt down?, was'nt there a much much lower sea level that exposed much much more land?
If you have access to a map from that period please post it.
