wish they were in Florida???

Hey, did anybody see Snakes on a Plane? It opened on my birthday so I checked it out with my wife and a friend of mine (both non-snake people). I had really low expectations but went anyway because, you know, snakes.

But I have to say, "what a cool movie!!!". Lots of comic relief with great one-liners. Tons of mayhem, I mean the stuff nightmares are made of (for non-snake people - I myself really wanted to get on that plane), and great characters. Samuel Jackson played his character so well and the snake doctor guy is priceless. Both my wife and my friend were cracking up because he reminded them so much of me. Which brings up a question. I don't want to give too much away but there are two snake lovers in the movie. The doctor and a guy who lives in the desert. Which one are you most like? Scary to say but I've run across both.

The movie was definately not educational and did nothing to dispell any myths about snakes. In fact, I think we should group e-mail the mythbusters and have them do a whole show on this movie. But go into it with low expectations and I think you will be entertained. At our showing, the whole audience seemed to have a good time from beginning to end.

Here's a tally of the real snakes that I saw on the plane

Corn snake
Sinaloan Milk
Florida King
Burmese python
Boelen's Python
Cape Cobra (I think)
NO BRBs (bummer)

Let's hear what you think. Maybe this will keep us entertained until the reports come back from Daytona.

Ever since the sequel to Anaconda came out I have been skeptical about movies with snakes in them, especially this one. I saw a picture of one of the fake rhino (mabye gaboon, wasnt that great of a picture) it looked interesting.
I also remember trying to watch Alexander and seeing Angelina Jolie as his mother playing with a snake, and a corn snake on the floor or something....fat chance you'd find one of those in Africa, although they did have a ball python.
My mom took me to see Anaconda when it came out at theatres and I was pretty young at the time. I already wanted an anaconda by that time, still have yet to get one, but when I do, its name is gonna be Rover.
It would be cool to go to as big of an event as daytona, I cant imagine anything bigger than the Sacramento show, eventhough I know thats tiny. The sucky thing about Northern California is that we dont have nearly as many snake enthusiasts as you would think.
As far as which one of those characters I would be, I would have to say neither. I really think that we are lacking in snake lovers who are women. We can like snakes too!

I forgot to mention that the storyline sucked and no way did the snakes look real (I'm not a fan of digitized snakes). But like I said, keep these expectations low and you'll have a good time.

You're not alone. Lots of very knowlegeable, experienced female herp lovers out there. Just visit the morelia viridis forum sometime.

Snakes on a Plane was freaking awesome. It's a great comedy masked as a horror/action movie. There is no plot or character development and it's still fun to watch. One thing that's a must, go with a crowd it's not as fun picking on the movie alone.
