11 eggs 12 baby black pines=Twins!

ginter Aug 20, 2006 12:08 PM

I have been doing this for a while but this is the first time I have documented twins, in this case they are black pines. I had to count the hatchlings and eggs several times in disbelief. All hatchlings are really huge so I do not know how the egg could have held two of them!

Call me old fashion but the black pines are favorites of mine ever since as a young kid flipping the pages of Roger Conant's field guide! what a great time we live in where for a few dollars and the right connections every one can have almost any pine or gopher they want!

Cheers, Ginter

Ginter,
Thank you for your good words. This hobby has evolved so much in the past 20 years, every so often we need to stop and reflect on how it began. Not just pits, but so many species are now captive bred and readily available. It's hard for younger herpers to understand that the animals they take for granted were once only dreams in field guides.

rgds,
althea
