Ran across the post from July below questioning the laws in SC.
As crazy as it may seem, the typical person may capture, keep, breed, sell and photograph almost any of the native herps including box turtles (exceptions would be Indigos, diamond back turtles maybe a few others). You do not need a permit, HOWEVER, if you are capturing the animlas for Scientific purposes, you must purchase a permit.
Seriously, I did not reverse the order of those permit requirements, that is the way it is right now. In regards to exotic non native species, I have no idea.
