What are all your adult males measuring?
mark,
My rhino will be 8 in Nov. He is exactly 40" stl and 18.5" svl. I dont have his history for the 1st 3 yrs and I would guess he is missing about 1 " of his tail.
joel
Scrub, 7 year old male
41 inches STL (missing 1.5 inches of tail)
19.5 inches SVL
Bubbles, 8 year old female
44 inches STL (with a curl in the tail)
20 inches SVL
I went and checked his S/V length, and it is 23.5". I'm not sure if this is average for adult males. He isn't as fat and beefy as some I have seen, but I guess he could fill out later.
thats a pretty good size, How old is he?
That is worth documenting as zoo records note males as growing up to 560mm SVL, at 23.5" yours is 597mm SVL ! Although I did not go around with a tape measure, I have photographed and handled alot of rhinos in the DR and based on the SVL would put yours in the category of largest of large. My group ranges from 465 to 565mm SVL. Can you post us a picture of this beast ?

Mabey I should re-measure, because although he is long, he definately does not have the bulk of the one your holding. I basically slid a tape measure under his belly to his vent and measured to his snout tip. Then, while hanging on the wire of his cage facing me, did the same and got 23.5 inches. I was told by some others that this size was normal for a full grown adult. I'll try to take some current pics.

Wide angle lenses can make small fish look big.
That is one big lizard, bigger than any of my 2.4, which I have not measured recently, but will estimate the largest at 45" and flawed -- a by product of raising them in a group. They range from 8-12 in age. Although the males tend to grow bigger in Mass and SVL, with my group, the females have longer tails, and thus longer LOA.
