lizard breeding help

carolinareptile Aug 20, 2006 06:13 PM

I have been breeding bearded dragons for about two years now. I have been selling mainly to pet stores and people in my area. I have been wanting to sell to other places, like across state lines. I know how to ship a lizard but I was wondering if there are any laws I need to know about. I live in NC where it is legal to sell lizards.

Pretty much how do I technically go about becoming a larger breeder? What kinds of payments should I accept? What sort of things should I look out for? I need all the input I can get.

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi Andrew, Not quite sure about laws in NC, I'm in NJ right above you, but most of the time you just need to pay for permits for the animals you have.

As far as getting started selling beard dragons, best place to start and find out info is to ask someone who already sells them. Someone you can trust to be honest with you.

Just make sure you know what your getting into, I'm sure you know that all the kids need to be seperated..,,,, so many per enclosure.... so many crickets to buy/breed Lights, enclosrues, expenses.

AND another thing to think about, so many people already flooding the market with beardies. Not to mention the breeders who sell the more top of the line kids, beautiful morphs so on.

I would definitely talk to another breeder and get their prospective on things.
Bennet from BeardedDragons right there in florida, is a very nice guy to talk with and learn from

thanks,
I actually just bought some frilled dragons, and I LOVE them, so I hope to breed them.
