Pastel comment and question and...

EmberBall Aug 20, 2006 08:51 PM

With the price of Pastels at a record low, I am trying to set up what I am going breed Pastel wise next year. I am also going to get a few females, Pastel females, and have really decided to get on 10's, on the 1-10 scale. Even with price flux, I think quality animals will be purchased over cheap ones by some of the new people coming into the hobby. I have a Pastel YB male, two adult Pastel females (VPI and Bell) and have 10 Pastel eggs yet to hatch, 4 from a Pastel x Pastel and 6 from Pastel x normal. What are some of the cool crosses that people like from Pastels? Are Pastel Ghosts still sought after? What about Pastel Albinos? What Pastel crosses are people working on...and any GOOD Pastel or Pastel cross pics. What ever happened to the Stone washed Pastels?

Favorite pastel crosses:

Pewter, axanthic pastel, pastel genetic stripe, bumblebee, pastel pied and clown, pastel YB is nice for an improvement over a regular ol' pastel wonder what the pastel ivory will look like?

Ralph Davis posted a Pastel Ivory produced by Mark & Kim Bell in the September 3, 2004 journal entry.

It's the Ivory on the right in the group photo and it's also pictured in another shot with Pastel YB and YB sibs.

The Pastel gene looks to add some extra purple colouration at hatching. I'd love to see how it's aged since hatching.

I plan on doing this: got my '05 Pastel male this year. I am breeding him to my 2 normal females this year; if the gods are watching, I can hope for, let's say, 7 pastels, 7 normals out of those 2 clutches.
So then, I will sell all of the offspring, keeping one female pastel.. buy a Spider female with the proceeds.. have a little extra money from the sales to support the rats I breed feeders) and in the coming years, produce Super Pastels and Bees! Muwhahaha!

I am not breding to "get rich" or anything.. I mostly want to breed for the joy of it; and also, I really love these snakes. They are the perfect pet in my opinion, and I look forward to the day I will see my first little hatchling!

pastel crosses we are working at over here are bumblebee's, citrus ghost x GCR pastel, vanilla pastel, and super pastels. All of those should happen either 06/07 season or 07/08 season. We have finally built up a large enough collection so we can make some awesome crosses. The next few years are going to be even more exciting in the ball world.
