RETAIL STORES SURVIVING?

addictedtoherps Aug 04, 2003 11:46 AM

Ok, we've established that basically you can't make money breeding reptiles, what about the retail stores? Are they a thing of the past? Can a retail herp shop make it?

I've been involved in the pet industry for many many moons and the most profitable area in their shops has NEVER been the pets they sell. It's always about the supplies and service.

There are a couple good industry magazines that can give you a better feel of what it's like to be "out there" in the pet shop world. "Pet Business" is the first one that comes to mind and they usually have at least one small article monthly dedicated to the different areas, such as dogs/cats/herps/aquatic. And, they have good information on legislation and other items of interest that affect our industry.
