My 7 year old daughter got a large new snapping turtle. He was clouding up his tank water very quickly in spite of a 1500 gph mechanical pond filter. My wife wanted a fountain in the back yard, not a galvanized steel "horse trough." The turtle's water needed a biological filter. I'm a roofer, so here is what I worked out. The water cleared up over night! So far, everyone is happy. We can change it around to move it to the basement in the winter (We're in Ohio). The rounded part at the bottom was added to reduce the water noise.
