New snakes from Daytona

MikeMurphy Aug 21, 2006 10:10 AM

This pair of granite mex mex was a huge suprise for me from Rich and Connie of Serpenco. I work at their tables every year in Daytona and they always do something nice for me. This year it was this pair of snakes ($1,500 for the pair!) from Mark Bell. Mark said he's not really sure about the genetics of these guys and that there is a ton of variation in "speckling". You can see that with these two. They also apparently came from wildcaught adults originally that showed a lot of speckling and when those were bred the speckling increased. Check out the cool head and tail patterns. They are yearlings and are nice and fat. Steve, the manager at Mark's Reptile Industries, said they eat pinks like crazy right off the bat. Anyone know anything else about them or their origins? The one on the top is the female and the two shots below are the male. I'll post some better ones soon. Thanks again Rich and Connie!

Good thing you got there first! LOL Those are fantastic. Nice to have met some of the folk who post here. My wife was actively buying ball pythons but I did manage to get a nice netonate VA chain king from Crimsonking and from Lindsay Pike a very nice baby SF Mole king, Plus a gorgeous Elaphae Fretena.

Bit of a pain getting in, that line was beyond ridiculous and it left several venders in poor buyer locations up in the balcony.

I stand corrected. Mark just told me my beautiful new eastern was from further south (NC) Snake with a tan? LOL. Still a pretty girl.

A surprise for me was I saw no "conjuncta" chocolate kings there. Also no eastern blacks.

Mike, good meeting you. Kevin told me what he said to you on Sunday:

"I guess you guys ran out of Corn snakes because we sold one today".

Ha ha!

On my way home now and I am stopping at Zee's house to sex all of those Cumberland x Robeson Kingsnakes that he hathed (guess I am doing it for many posters here, actually). He is in Kuwait until next Spring.

Also, I am going to take some hi-res pic's of that Golden Corn (and some of her babies). Check the Corn snake forum tomorrow if you are interested.

Good meeting you too Peter. Yeah, that was funny what Kevin said. Sunday was just as busy as Saturday. We had lots of huge sales from people from Europe and Japan. They all said it's cheaper to buy them here. And with the strength of the Euro against the dollar right now, it makes sense.

Funny how we were talking about not being crazy about morphs and then I end up with these granite guys. But they were really the thing that caught my eye this year. And I've heard they do occur in speckled form to some to degree or other in the wild. I'm sure captive breeding has made it more pronounced of course, just like everything.

BTW, nice business cards. You wouldn't happen to be in printing, would you? LOL>>

That trio on his table was still there on sat at 5PM. I wanted them and was talking to Mark about a trade for them. But one thing led to another and sunday morning came and I saw that they were gone. Good to see they have a good home.

MikeMurphy Aug 21, 2006 03:20 PM

Who said they have a good home? I was going to eat their gallbladders. I heard it makes you last longer in the sack! LOL>

Just kidding, of course. They are awesome snakes and I can't wait to see what I get out of them. I almost bought the second female so I'd have a trio. I hope I don't regret that I didn't.

BTW, where were all the goini this year? Was I missing something?

Mike,

I saw some at crimson king's table and someone in one of the outer rooms had a couple.

I've been a big fan of the granite Mex Mex for a few years now. They rarely ever pop up for sale. I just sent payment about an hour ago for an '06 pair. They aren't as speckled as those but show alot of speckling (at least the female)...the line mine are coming from produce animals like yours. A specimens you got.

Mine are coming from Don Shores... He produces a limited number every year.

I have always enjoyed working with the mexicana complex and am very excited to add some of these to my projects list!
