Do greens push?

Jim123 Aug 21, 2006 05:11 PM

I have a question that I have not seen asked here. Do green anacondas push on their glass as the breeding season starts? I’ve noticed this with my retics and cringe, as I know it’s starting to near again. Some of my retics have done numbers to their noses/mouths when trying to escape or find a mate. I am contemplating on getting a pair of captive bred greens this winter and was wondering if they too do this. With my retics, in most cases they settle down and their faces return to normal when the season nears the end. It has not been a problem with the ones that are not mature only the adults.

I’d like to hear from people that have mature adults, especially about the males as they’re mating season starts. Thank you for your time to those that answer.

Jim,
I know what you mean, I think Retic's are the worst at pushing at the corners of the cage. The only adult male Green I have is the one Kelly and I use for breeding. He is almost 16 years old and I have seem him push only a couple of times, all very minor. They seem to be very content most of the time, even going into breeding season. I hope this helps. It sure does Jud. You both will be hearing from me when you hook up your greens again. Once retics start to push there is little you can do other then lowering the heat. I was hoping this was something greens were not inclined to do.

I know this is an anaconda forum and forgive me for asking here, but how many retics are you working with. Retics are my love. I keep 1.2 adult Jampeas, 2.1 adult tigers, 0.1 adult super tiger & a hold back 0.1 from this year, 1.1 yearling albinos, with an amel headed this way.

Thanks for your time in answering. I look forward to corresponding with you in the future.

Hi Jim,

I always enjoy reading your posts and appreciate your knowledge and experience. Glad that you are considering a pair of Kelly and Jud's greens. I just got a baby female from Jud and she is as calm and tame as my male. It is difficult to put into words just how docile these greens are. They might become your new favorites once you work with them. Bill

Green anacondas have always fascinated me. Many years ago I had one that was super nasty. I mean this gal would bite down so hard that her eyes would disappear. Never in a million years would I have thought that I would even consider one again after that bad experience. Looking back retics were also demons back then. Heck, I owned an African rock at the same time and this was the best of the bunch. Captive breeding sure has come a long way, though not for the African rocks.
