NORTHEAST GEORGIAN (Cornelia, Georgia) 18 August 06 Demorest ponders bans on crematories, mice, reptile breeders (Kristen Mangum) {Excerpt}
It appears the Demorest City Council has been keeping up with the local news.
On Monday, during a called meeting and work session, the council agreed that it likely would be a benefit to prohibit any crematory and mice- or reptile-breeding facility from setting up shop in the city.
The proposed amendments would be recorded in the land use development ordinance, which is expected to be reviewed at an upcoming meeting and, later, approved.

"Another thing that I thought about, and this is just because of what I have seen in the paper lately, is [a possible amendment to the ordinance] for reptile-breeding operations," said City Attorney David Burroughs at the meeting.
MiceDirect, a rodent-, roach- and snake-breeding business located on Highway 17 near Hollifield Grocery outside Clarkesville, recently has been the subject of newspaper headlines and television news broadcasts about whether it is in compliance with Habersham County land use regulations.
Council members are expected to review the current ordinance, as well as proposed amendments to the document, for consideration at an upcoming council meeting.
