Outer Banks killed Striped Racer: NOPE

Oxyrhopus Aug 21, 2006 08:58 PM

So I returned from Daytona with a few south florida mole kings and several patternless goni, brooks, and outer banks pair, etc etc. I rebagged stuff and put half away, however one of the outer banks made a hole in the bag and escaped. I did not know it, but a Striped Racer escaped also the day before.

So today I am walking past a tank stand and notice a body and tail of the racer out from the side of the back of the stand. I grasped the racer and it was not moving and I pulled a bit and it did not move. So I ran my hand up its back and found a lump and pulled out the banks king which killed the racer.

I took a picture and of course would not permit the cb king to eat a wild caught snake so I unwrapped the king from the racer.

I then started to massage the racer and it slowly popped back to life and seems OK.

So glad you took the pic--reality is bizarre at times! I'll have to file this under "Novel Ways to Capture an Escaped Kingsnake".(lol)

There must be a reason in the Universe that you recaptured both-perhaps one will throw the "morph of the century", that is. . .if the racer isn't too brain damaged from lack of oxygen to get mating right.

This is the second bizarre instance in 24 hours to come to my attention. Last night my husband was poking around under a rack in the herp room and announced, "I found your spider!". I had lost a pink-kneed T six months ago and here she was--well hydrated, plump, 3x's larger than at time of escape--and recently deceased! Bizarre--blame it on the phase of the moon!

I bet that racer has seen the light!!! Then suddenly he wakes up and crawls on . . .
Nice OBK by the way.
