Story of a racer

philbradley1 Aug 21, 2006 09:13 PM

I was with some friends in eastern NC a few months ago when we came upon a fresh DOR female Blk Racer. She had expelled one egg on the side of the road and had three others in her (upon visual inspection). We humanely dispached the female and opened her to retrieve the eggs. Only one was viable and luckily this little critter hatched. It will be released ASAP in the same location that the mother was found (maybe a bit farther off the road).

This tale would make an oustanding children's book--especially with photos--just a thought.

It was wonderful that you were able to hatch the one egg and release it back where its mother was killed.

I love snakes, but I never thought I'd ever hear a "heartwarming" story about one until I read your post. Awesome! Hope the little guy makes it.
