Lizards and pest control issues!

IckyOwner Aug 22, 2006 11:03 AM

To make a long story short, I need to get my critters (among them, a golden gecko) out of the house for about 4 hours, while the building is being sprayed. Will leaving the gecko without heat for this period of time do a lasting harm?

Unless you are living in Alaska in the middle of winter, I don't see any problem. If you are worried, just keep checking their temperature, within 10F for that short of a time will be fine. They may get a little stressed depending on how well they handle being moved so much in one day, but I would guess by the next they will be back to themselves. (If it was winter, I would suggest one of those dispoable glove warmers they sell for hunters, tape it to the side of the transport box.)

I would be more concerned about the residual fumes from the spraying. I would suggest you air out the house yourself for a while before you bring the critters back in at the very least. Also make sure you are taking any live food out with the critters, or be even safer and just buy fresh afterward.

Thanks. =)

It turned out that the reptiles tolerated the relocation better than the cat did! The apartment's been aired out and I'll be getting new crickets tonight.
