a sexing question and a pic

asia2003 Aug 04, 2003 12:39 PM

Hi all,

My wd is about a year old, and as of yet, we are still going back and forth about the sex. For a while I believed that asia was a girl, but after she did this, I am starting to think otherwise....see pic

i would say female. for a yr old those spikes are pretty small. not thick like a males. and the throat doesnt have all the different colors like a male. stripes are white. on males the stripes are normally blue color. crest isnt very big.
so i would say female.

Stripes, throat color, spikes, none of these can accurately determine sex as they are highly variable. The main difference is the proportion of head to body. Compare the picture of your female to my male below.

Well guys, after having looked at those two pics of males, I can honestly agree that asia must be a female. Also she is a year old already, and there is little or no sign of any enlarged femoral pores.

Thanks for your help, the last thing I wanted to do was go to the vet for a probing appt.

The only reliable way is to look at the femoral pores on their inner thighs. Here is a pic of my male tho:
