All,

As some of you may know, we lost our eastern female, little miss.

A few weekends ago we made the hard decision that it was no longer fair to keep her in the health she was in and had her put down.

Poor little girl just stopped eating out of the blue and the rapidly went downhill.

Antibiotics didn't seem to make much difference even though we were giving her liquids and food mixtures, it just didn't work.

Now i am starting to get a little paranoid about the rest of the little guys,

The viv has been bleached ad everything throughly cleaned, but I have noticed a slight drop in weight of 2 of them so want to do everything i can to make sure i dont suffer the same problem with these other 2 guys.

On a daily basis they get access to UVA and UVB and the tube they have is brand new since we lost little miss.
Heat and temps etc are all fine,

They do not have any visible mites and get vit treated crix, locusts and waxies as and when required.

Am starting to assume worms or something like that as cant think of much else and they would explain why the sudden lack of appetite i guess.

Whats the best treatment for either this, I was given some panacur liquid some time ago, but wasn't sure of the doesage or % that is was so didn't take the risk,, would this have been an option ? and if so what doesage do you recomend at what % ????

If not can you recommend me everything you can think of as want to hit any bugs, mites, critters head on in one hit to ensure we do not loose any more of our little friends.

thanks so much, and hope you can help.

Andy

I use the paste in the plunger tube, and I know how much to give my guys but the liquid is probably different in doseage.

Here is a chart that may be of help to you.

Ok great stuff, thanks

do you give them anything else,, general antibiotics ?? or anything when they arrive to you and you need to make sure you killed everything off ???

I have got antibiotics and the norm mite sprays etc as well as disinfectants..

Will panacur complete my armoury against what ever problem is making my little fellas unwell,

Hard to proetect against everything sure, but want to do everything i can.

could help ya anwser that one Funky, but unfortunitly there can be so many things that could have killed your girl or make your other lizards sick, ya know . We just don't have all the answers.

Thats why gettign fecal exams done is important , lets you know WHAT if any parasites/worms you are dealing with and HOW best to treat them. Panacur can kill alot of the most commom, but there are a couple that other meds work better on.
If you really suspect parasites, then the panacur can be extremely helpful.

Hey I sure hope thats the problem. I know you say you have a hard time getting to a vet. That would be the best solution in most cases when you can not help them.

Easy to get to a vet,, been several times

the hardest thing is finding a vet that knows threse reps,, thats where the problem lies,

PHEve Aug 23, 2006 12:57 PM

thats why I'm trying to learn some things myself :0) as far as doing hte fecals and such. There are alot of people who like their Vets, but I agree some just are not into reptiles as much.

Need a vet who specializes in them.

I start out hitting sick lizards with both Panacur and Flagyl at the same time. Then I give just one of those meds every two weeks (one week give Panacur, two weeks later give Flagyl, etc.). Do the every two week schedule for a couple of months, then give on an as-needed basis after that. That should hit most of the common bugs that the lizards can carry; and that schedule has been about 95% effective in curing my anorexic lizards over the years.

Here's the dose for panacur.
Fenbendazole (panacur)
Dosage: 50-100 mg/kg orally ... should be repeated in two weeks.

You can dilute the paste with some water , make it into a liquid, and store it in the frige. A couple drops for a collared. Then repeat in 2 weeks.

Wow that sounds so much easier than the granule method my vet gave me...

onthefly Aug 24, 2006 11:39 PM

OK so I mix 50-100mg with how much water? and only give a few drops or is one lizard getting the whole 50-100mg? or do you use this mixture of 50-100mg and water to treat several lizards? do you repete this for thee days or is it one treatment and two weeks later give only one treatment. I would like to get the details down and do this right the fist time and save this guy thanks again for all the input

Thanks
