Albino chameleons?

mcaperton663 Aug 22, 2006 04:39 PM

I was discussing this the other day and I didn't have a answer, so maybe someone here can help me. Is it possible to produce an albino/amelenistic chamleon? I have never seen or heard of such occurance. Is it impossible because of the chameleons' color changing ability? I appreciate any further info regarding this topic. I know that there are color and pattern varients regarding local, but are there any known morphs out there (proven or unproven). Thanks again for your time and consideration.

That one picture of the jacksons chameleon is an example of a leustic chameleon. Leustics are all white animals with minimal or no pattern on them. There eyes are black though.

In the kingsnake classifieds there is a weird veiled chameleon for sale that is leustic in looks. Take a peak sometime....

But as far as i know, there is no albino chameleon.

I would go far enough to call that Jax albino, not leucistic. Looking at the outer rims of the eye turrets, you can see the reddish coloration. Based off the assumption that the owners of that chameleon identified it as albino, I would think a red ring around the eyes could be a characteristic of albinism.

I would have to agree with Michele on this one. It seems to me that the jackson in question is indeed an albino. I am curious though to see if this could possibly be a recessive gene or could be breed for hets. I don't see how it could, due to back breeding through the same lines. Any ideas?

You guys could be right. I went back and looked at the picture more carefully, and it does seem to be albino....Too bad the quality of the picture isnt too great.
