This thing is impossible to photograph. It's fun trying though. I picked him up about three weeks ago from Troy Whitacre.

I'm soooooo jealous! I was about three minutes behind you.
I was so bummed when Troy e-mailed me back and said it was sold.
Keep me in mind if that beautiful thing ever produces more of the same. Congatulations! Thanks for the pics.

I've seen melanistic thayeri listed in the classifieds twice since then.
I was looking for a female to go with this male. The first guy I talked to had only one female, and she had "genetic bumps". I passed.
The next ad was a little suspicious. The guy had no pictures and said he was tired of taking individual pics. He was also selling albino thayeri, and it's my personal choice to steer clear of people selling hybrids as "thayeri". No offense to those folks who don't mind.
Greg. Some of us appreicate the fact that you are trying to keep it clean. Have you tired John Cherry? He used to pop them out regularly. If you get a chance post more pics of this one.

The one I posted is a 2002 female from Dan V. I tried to breed her in '05, she appeared gravid but never laid. You could easily palpitate ovum, but I'm not sure she was ever gravid. She went on a lengthy hunger strike that summer, and at one time was limp and practically lifeless, laying on her side like she was gojng to die. Then one day she took a mouse, and since then she has become very healthy again. I gave her this year off from breeding, but I'll try her again next year. She is the offspring of one of Dan's white leonis males and an orange leonis female.
I have talked to John Cherry a few times about melanistic thayeri. He says he occasionally produces them. None last year, and this year he has his entire snake collection on loan to Jim Sargent at Split Rock Reptiles. Maybe John is focusing on his miniature horse business. Last time I talked with Jim, nothing had hatched out yet. I should try him again.

Put me on your list if you breed some melanistic next year Greg. I thought that pic was of the one you just picked up. Am I confused here??????

I did just pick up the '05 melanistic. for some stupid reason I thought you were commenting on another photo I posted in the thread below. My bad.
Unless I get a melanistic female, I won't be breeding any melanistics for a few years. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that one will turn up.
