New Salamanders

I have a baby Eastern Newt that just lost it's gills, how should I set him up? I have one more that is still in the newt stage. And how fast do these guys grow? He's just big enough for fruit flies so he'll get those dusted every day. And he is still greenish will he be turing orange for the eft stage any time soon, or will he stay aquatic?

Did you raise these from captive bred eggs? If so, good work! The simplest setup would be a plastic shoe box, or small aquarium, with top soil and a small hide. They will eat fruit flies, but will grow VERY slowly on those. I'd say skip the fruit flies and train them to eat tiny bits of earthworm from a tweezers. They will grow a lot faster and are more likely to survive long-term on a diet of worms.

The color will depend on the subspecies. If they are broken-striped eastern newts, they will stay a sort of drab greenish orangish color, not very different from the adults.

Actually I caught them when I was getting some tadpoles to raise. I was hoping they were tiny tiger salamanders, byt these are good too. The kind we have around here are the Red-Spotted Newt. I'm not so sure the other newt is the same kind, but i know the one is a Red-Spotted Newt, I should have specified taht. LOL
