Kimberley rock monitor clutch

willstill Aug 22, 2006 09:45 PM

Hi All,

My female Kimberley went down yesterday afternoon and emerged all baggy this evening. She dropped her second clutch of eggs two weeks after her last observed breeding. Fortunately, she deposited them all in the nest chamber and they all look to be hatchable (we'll see). She again made her nest in the vertical hollow log that I have buried in the cage.

Her nesting went much more smoothly this time around, I think because of a few changes. I added more dirt, about 15 inches total. A also let the substrate dry out a bit, because it was sopping wet down near her nest chamber last time. Finally, I left her the heck alone when I saw that she was digging. Anyway, here are a couple of pics. Thanks for looking.

Here is the clutch of 8 eggs in the nest box. The darker 9th egg is the one survivor (so far) from the last clutch. It looks good in person, I don't know why it looks so brown in the pic. Thanks for looking.

Here is the female after her first meal, post delivery. She is very baggy and saggy, but her tail is still very thick. She ate crickets an hour after covering the nest. This is her second clutch , she is about 8 and a half months old. Thanks for looking, and thank you to Frank for sharing your wisdom with us. I owe DISCOVER card for my monitors, but I owe you everything else. Thanks.
