New Biak Arrived!

Mark_D Aug 23, 2006 07:59 AM

Hi Everyone,

Just posting to let you all know that my new and first Biak Chondro just arrived. The 2ft Vivarium would definately dwarf this little guy, so he is in a suitably sized plastic snake container. I have fixed flexi-vine inside the viv to form perches at different positions throughout the thermo-gradient.
It's a fiesty little beasty and managed to give me a nip whilst tranfering to the new viv, probably picked up on my heat.
I managed to snap two quick photo's whilst transfering, sorry for the poor quality but I didnt want to stress the little guy by keeping him out.
He's now adopted the classic position on the perch closest to the heat source looks like its settling in well.
Please let me know what you think of him/her as its my first Chondro. I think its amazingly beautiful, but I am biased I guess.

Thanks all!

Mark

Thank you both for your replies
I'm in love with this snake, its so beautiful.
Took a closer look this morning when I gave it the morning mist, it has a few areas of yellow 'blush'. Some on its head and a few small areas on the body.
Do babies have this or could it be changing? Its only around 8 - 10 months old so probably to early to be changing right??

Thanks again!

Mark

P.s I was amazed at how wonderful the snake looked with the droplets of water on its scales. Like a jeweled necklace!

They seem to change when they want. Usually the Biak's are slow changers so even though yours may be starting early, it will probably take years to finish.

Thanks Meg,

The patches just look like small smudges of yellow, almost making the snake look opaque. very random, some areas have distinct little lines of a few scales of yellow.
But overall he is very red.
I'll try and do a few more pics.
I was amazed at how thin the end of his tail is, looks so fragile!
Raising neonates must be one hell of a delicate matter.

Cheers

Hey,
She or he is a beauty. I can't wait to breed one of my adult Biaks this year. She is not my only Biak, but she is one that I have not bred before and could be interesting as she also, started out as a reb baby. Should be fun!
