It was probly caught in centeral PA

If it was caught in Pennsylvania, it's Black Rat Snake. It has a lot of pattern showing..must be a young one. Usually by the time they are 3 feet long or so they are just about solid black.

Where was it found? It looks like a Texas Rat maybe to me, but it could be a Black Rat/Gray Rat intergrade also, or just a dark Gray Rat.

i think its a black rat

That is so weird. I came to this forum to ask that very question. I live in southeastern PA and I have found a 2.5 ft Black Rat Snake, from what yous have said. It has almost no patterns left, just some diamonds on his sides. How ironic. I didnt even ask that question.

Well I don't know even now why they are called BLACK rat snakes because i have found one's over 6 foot long and they had more yellow and red than black and i know they were black rat snakes just very aberent
