Why did it die??!!

FLAohHerper Aug 23, 2006 03:48 PM

Came home today and my juvy GTP was sadly and unfortunately dead.It was about 8 months old and I had it for about 5.He was eating good until about 3 weeks ago and stopped. His conditions never changed and all the other snakes in the room are doing fine.I found it wrapped in a ball on the bottom of the cage and it was biting itself...could this be a disease?parasites?Im just asking opinions to know if it was me at all or unpreventable just so it doesnt happen again....Also,I beleive it was farm raised and not a CBB..i know i know bad move on my part..thanks guys for all of your help.

Well not to be rude, but if the snake was an import and you diden't treat it for parasites then ya, it is kinda your fault...

That is actually a semi commom mistake... Most people are not expecting to spend time at the vet after buying a new critter, however if it is imported it probably had parasites, worms and other fun stuff...

I would say that your critter probably died from parasites and the ultimate cause of death was probably a punctured lung...

I am vary sorry to hear about your loss... If you get another please consider getting a fecal dont on it...

You can always get a necropsy done if you're really worried. I'm with Shiloh, however... with every investment or big purchase should come with some level of insurance, be it mental or physical. A good breeder and a fecal should be common practice for any new acquisition.

Lessons are often learn the hard way. I am however very sorry for the loss of your animal and hope it does not stear you away from chondros.

Hey,
Lots of reasons could be associated with the cause of death and not one thing alone. That said, with this lose, comes new insight and an awareness to future prospects in the chondro world. Do not give up but learn from it. It's a lesson learned!
