Amel Sonoran strains?

ShaunRoberson Aug 23, 2006 04:36 PM

Has anyone ever bred two amel Sonorans together and hatched out some amels and sone hets? I've never heard of this, but my partner called last night and informed me that the clutch started pipping and some were normal??? This is the first year we've paired these two together, but I am completely at a loss. Here is the pair, btw:

Yeah I have . I breed a Blizzard to a WC Albino Papago Park and got 50% Amels and 50% normals/hets. But the Albino hatched out way different they where Dark orange blotches with light orange. The normals where super nice looking too. The mother was about 75% yellow. I will see if I can dig up some pics.
Post some pics of hatchling if you can.

Hmm, OK. Well I know many Sonorans are very different colors, but both of these parents are pretty much the red/yellow type as you can see in the pic. I'm not sure how one would be het for the other either, well, the male must be because we bred and raised the female ourselves. I'll post pics of them when I get a chance.

I can tell the 2 different strains apart from each other. One bloodline has hour glass and star shape blotches and the other has more softer round or squarish blotches but that could change this if they have breed togather.

if that's the case, maybe they are different. Did you look at the two in the pic? It's kind of hard to tell because they're wrapped up together and the pic was resized by KS, but the female has the more "clean pattern", smooth, rounded blotches, while the male has the more jagged blotches. The '04 I've pictured here has the clean, rounded pattern for instance - it also seems to be hypo(old pic, it's much bigger now).

Yeah I noticed now. Thats how I tell them apart. That could change with outcrossing them, I would think. Thats a big problem not enought outcrossing has been.

Take care

Cool, well, I'll let you know what the babies look like(I'll be seeing them this coming Saturday and will get some pics); it seems like the "jagged" strain is more common, so I bet the look more like that. I know most of the ones I have seen around are that type, but I really like the "smooth" ones we've produced. Of course, I wonder how much the two will "blend" if an animal is double homozygous? I'm looking forawrd to seeing them...
