Strange question but....

Boost Aug 23, 2006 06:22 PM

anyone know of any online suppliers of Grasshoppers???

I know it's a strange question and you might ask why don't I catch them around my house, well, simply put our neighbours use a variety of pest removal services. They take care of anything from Black Widow Spiders to Ants to Rats.

So anyone know if they breed Grasshoppers??

Am I looking in the right spot? I found bait that kills grasshoppers on that site but not the location where you can buy the grasshoppers themselves.

Hummm, what do you know...I guess this site is trying to get rid of grasshoppers! I didn't know they were a 'pest'.

Guess I should read these things more carefully.

Sorry Boost :

This site seems to sell some hoppers. Never got any from them but thought it might help you out.

Lol, no worries David.

Thanks Joe, I know raising grasshoppers seems strange but they tend to get use in fishing of some sorts, so we shall see how things go. My collareds seem less than enthused with Crickets these days and don't eat mealworms as they don't move. If I were to live in a rural area I would be more comfortable in feeding wild caught insect. Though around here, there are plenty, we have a few neighbours who actively have their yards sprayed to control insects.

http://www.zoomed.com/html/canos.php

ZooMed markets their "Can O'Grasshoppers," which you could feed directly or in one of those fancy vibrating dishes to simulate movement if your collareds are picky. I haven't tried them but I'm sure my turtles would go for them. I have some banded geckos that will accept dead prey items, so I might try their "Can O'Crickets" on them.

The cans were selling for somewhere around $5 at PetsMart.

Oh yeah, I fed mine a the ZooMed Can O Grasshoppers once. I just wiggled them a bit and the lizards took them right from my fingers...then I learned to use a long pair of tweezers
