Super Stripes.......Name Change or not??

JaredHorenstein Aug 24, 2006 12:53 PM

I have been contemplating either changing the name of the ssyb or possibly giving it a type of surname or alias........peopel still seem to be very confused by the name as it really is not a super of either morph.....i do love the name.....but i want to help the community aswell........

so i have been thinking of a name that "feels better" so top speak.......and i want everyones opinion on this one......especuially Tom, Anthony, & BHB since were workin on this one........

I really like the name Candycane as it seems befitting......but again thats me........so what do you thik?

Super Stripe ..... a.k.a. The Candycane Ball?

I would think it would would confuse people with a name change, super stripe hits it right on the head!!!
You made it ,you named it, I would say stick with it. Glad you found her.

toshamc Aug 24, 2006 01:05 PM

I am personally not fond of the candycan ball as a name - but I don't have a problem with Super Stripe as a name either.

BTW congrats on finding the sucker - maybe you should call it the Houdini ball.

KEEP THE NAME, it is your morph, and anyone doing any research who is contemplating buying one, will QUICKLY learn that it is not a super form, but the name rocks, and describes it, and a Candycane is a freakin Christmas treat! not a Ball!

I'd have to say that 'CandyCane' is probably not a suitable name for this morph.

I think that when people hear 'candycane' in the herp world they picture an animal that is primarily RED and WHITE and somewhat BANDED a la 'CandyCane Cornsnake'.

Love em or hate em, corns have a tradition of setting the standard for many of the morph names used in herpetoculture.

Am I the only person who chuckles at the 'true ghost' label for the eventual combo of hypo and axanthic in a Ball Python?

What if someone produces a double homozygous albino and burgundy ball that is primarily white and red pigments? Would it then be labeled 'true Candycane'?

Please don't take this post as an insult.
It is mearly some constructive criticism.

Name it Candycane if you'd like, it just doesn't look like anything else in herpetoculture currently sold under the tradename of 'CandyCane'.

I think the "Super" part would confuse people, for the exact reason you said. There are other ways to highlight the fact that it's an extreme stripe.

Hyper is technically the most appropriate.

Awesome snake.

Hyper stripe has already been taken by another morph that Neil Golli and John Berry are working with.
Jared the super stripes kick a** and we are all jealous of you .

jgjulander Aug 24, 2006 03:15 PM

Jared, keep the name. It's not confusing at all, especially in light of how many bees there are. Names are just names, and anyone interested in a certain ball has only to ask and can easily find out what makes it...unless it is secret...well, keep the name anyway.

I am in agreement with you all........I love my name for them......it is quit eperfect....but there are those that dislike it.......

Superstripers they remain......

ginebig Aug 24, 2006 03:24 PM

I'm late but I also think you should keep the name. If there aren't more than a handful of people that don't like it, they'll just have to adjust. Oh, and if you REALLY have to change the name, call it "Quigs Stripe" and send it my way

INTERESTING reading here to say the least! I think I will keep calling my line Cyclone Balls , I like it , plus this way the different origin lines will be kept seperate , all the Striped ones produced so far seem to be a little bit variable from each other , that and the obvious fact that the visual "hets" (Whirl Winds as I call them ) are NOT exactly the same in appearance , I think it is wise for each to name his own line and just leave it at that! Names are only names I agree totally , but to keep the lines seperate is a good thing as well, the easiest way is to give each line a unique name of it's own.. I agree they may be the same morphs and 100% compatable but I still think it is important to keep the lines seperate.. Just my two cents , I still am sold on calling Mine Cyclone's.. Either way this project is starting to evolve into a Superstar , Jared was right, ! Anthony McCain-McCain's Reptiles...

THE PAINT BALL!

Hey Jared,
Every time I see your snakes, I think to myself that they look like they were painted. They look more like art than animals. Since we know they come in colors, why not?

It seems to fit!

THE PAINT BALL.............
I just want credit for it. LOL.

Ian Gniazdowski of Outback Reptiles proved out a new co-dom or dom stripe earlier this summer and christened it 'Red Stripe'.

Ian's new Stripe morph is a real looker as well.

Well, since you asked....I would lose the super to stop any confusion. I don't have any great names to offer. Reminds me of the stripes on the highway though so maybe Highway Stripe. Or some spin on ribbon....I dunno.

dmasio13 Aug 26, 2006 04:31 PM

Jared keep the name its youre morph, the same with the lessers, mojaves, butters, etc they all make the blue-eyed lucy thats the name for that morph no matter how you produce it. I personally dont think its right (pardon me for not remembering) who ever made the Super Stripe also but with something different wanting to name them something else like cyclones or whatever, but we all know they are super stripes.
