My New Collared

joester2k3 Aug 24, 2006 12:56 PM

Hello. I just got my first Male collared lizard 3 days ago. However he isn't eating much at all. I have got him to eat 3 grass hoppers total over the past 2 days. Thats all he as eaten since I got him. He has deficated 3 times the first time It was a undigested cricket. the second time was perfect looking. And today All I saw was some pure white pee. So that all seems normal. I just think he should be eating like 5 or 6 crickets or grasshoppers a day. And he is only eating 1 or 2 grasshoppers and totally ignores crickets. My hot spot is 100+ and the air temp is 83-85 through out the tank. Any idea's as to get this little guy to eat better. When I bought him they told me he might be wild caught they where not sure.

Any helpful tips or things I should do will be greatly appriciated.

Been talking with Joe through email, and hearing all about his new collared. Glad to have ya here Joe! Enjoy the forum, many goofy, but nice people here to help, hehehehee.

Your temps can be 100 - 105 under yoru basking light 110 is acceptable. And in the high 80's to 90 in the rest of the tank.

And I happen to think 3 grasshoppers in 3 days is wonderful , especially for a wild caught little dude. As I said be patient

And post some pics soon

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

My suggestion would be for you to locate a reptile vet (if you have not already done so) and get a fecal done on your boy. He is probably a wild caught lizard, as I suspect that they would know for sure if he were captive bred. Assuming that he is wc, he probably has parasites; they pretty much all do. If you treat for parasites his appetite may increase. However, it doesn't sound like he's anorexic by any stretch

to our Collared Lizard family, I have lerned so much here from some many people and have been able to share some of what I have lerned with others asking the same things and making some of the mistakes that I have or are about to, I have felt very comfortable here with the rest of these lizard lovers sharing our triumphs and our sorrows rejoicing the new borns and consoling the loses just like any other family would, O.K. that's not all true I barged my way in here a few month ago with a fat pregnant female Collared lizard every one helped me and now they can't get rid of me, this is a great group of people, you will feel welcome here and should lern a lot about caring for your lizard

Hey my story is exactly the same.... I barged in here with two males and had to replace one of them for a female. That was a few moths ago too, and she also was full of eggs! Bizarre how it all works out, mine re-absorbed hers but if it wasn't for the help i had from these guys I wouldn't have known what to do.

If ya have any questions just post it, it might take a few days but it will be worth the wait. These guys will tell you everything they know if they can, I love this place
