Does anyone have information regarding Clemmys guttata in Massachusetts? I was told recently by a reliable source, that the status of "Species of Special Concern" has been dropped in regards to this species and Terrapene C. carolina.
Thank you.

When I was visiting the Boston area recently, someone brought this issue to my attention. From what I've seen in the article below, it seems that spotted turtles are no longer considered "special concern" as far as developers' interests go, but for hobbyists and would-be captive breeders they're still "hands off." Once again, government proves the friend of rich industrialists and the enemy of the little guy and the animal world.
Spotted Turtles Lose Protection
Here is the info--yes, the species os MUCH more common than anyone imagined, and YES, it's no longer of "special concern"... but NO, herpers in Mass cannot breed them...
