Wild-caught cal king, last night

Kerby... Aug 24, 2006 06:47 PM

Found this guy in my rodent room last night. Last year I had 5 sneak into my rodent room. I'll give him a mouse and then let him go out by my wood pile like the rest.

Chino Valley, AZ

Elevation 5,000 ft.

Wow! That's awesome. If that snake's indicative of most of the Az locale Cal Kings, it has a bit of a different look than alot of the coastals I've seen here or the few I've seen up in NoCal.

This is typical of the cal kings around the Prescott area (Prescott Valley, Dewey, Chino Valley). They can be brown and white in the low desert as well as black and white with the bands varying in width. Usually (not always), the higher in elevation the darker the bands and the thinner the yellow bands. Just nothing aberrant like in California.
