minimum distance chameleons can be kept away from other animals

chacoantegu Aug 04, 2003 02:49 PM

i am probably gonna have to move my chameleons into a different room then what they are in now and the only room available has my bearded dragons in it there is no way i can be able to put them side by side with a barrier. the distance between the beardeds and the chameleons would be 5 1/2 feet. so my question is is that far enought away so that the chameleons don't get stressed. also where do most of you guys on the form keep all of your reptiles

The problem is not just distance. Chams have very good distance vision and can easily see any animals across a house. The problem is seeing other animals over time. You will need to find a way to orient their cages so the don't see something like another herp constantly to avoid stress. If a dog etc. comes into a cham's view occasionally that is one short period of stress but it goes away. The beardie or other caged thing is never out of view and that is the key.

Just drape a towel or something on the side that the chameleon can see the other lizard. I keep all my lizards ina reptile room and when i place the chameleons and beardies next to each other, it's easier cause you only have to block off one side. Good Luck

i have all 4 chams side by side in the living room with towels draped over the edge so that they cannot see each other. there is no reason you shouldn't be able to do the same, just hang a towel however you can off the side of the cham cage, they won't be able to see anything on that side.
