I am jsut lost with this egg thing

jasonw Aug 24, 2006 10:14 PM

Ok today is day 47 for my eggs. I jsut got back in town "Got back earlyer than expected" I was crossing my fingers they did not hatch and luckyly they didnt but now more of them are denting in. The humidity in both egg containers is spot on a € and only the eggs in one of the containers are denting in. Any other suggestions?

Jason - In my experience, eggs may dent a little, even with perfect humidity, just before they hatch. Just, whatever you do, don't ever throw out an egg that you aren't positively certain is dead.

Best,

John D

put some moist moss or papertowels over the eggs.

You still have some time to go. They should not really be denting in.

If the eggs feel kinda solid, then they are dead. I have had eggs that looked great, held their form, start to solidify. I notice it when they start to dent in. Its hard to explain. You can tell they are solid, but still kinda squishy. Yet, they are not the leathery kind of squishy that good eggs are. Good eggs, you can tell there is liquid or baby snake within the egg. The eggs that I have had solidify just become more and more solid. They eventually smell like a dud. Not quite like a rotten egg, but not like a healthy egg.
hope this Helps, Jason
Post pictures if you can

My camera is curently messed up but I will try to get pictures if I can. They are not hard at all. They realy do look and feel like good eggs however now I have I believe 4 eggs total that are denting in. All in one container. The eggs in the other container have not dented at all. Each container has virtualy no smell at all. No good smell yet no bad smell eather. I have the eggs incubnating in Perlite. There is no mold or anything. For all intents and purposes these egggs apear good but the denting is bothering me as you said they are not supose to be ready to hatch yet. I have read here and other places that it is posable to have a clutch hatch in the 47 day mark so maybe I am the few this is hapening to. In fact the first website I read about it said they will hatch in 45-50 days at 85F wich is what mine are incubating at.

yes, at 85 they will hatch faster, but a higher chance for kinks.

I'd say you might hatch pretty close to 50 days! I think one of my king snakes clutches hatched at exactly 50 days (with 85 temps).
hope all goes well from here on out for you.

It sounds to me like they are getting ready to hatch.Mine usually start to dent a few days before they pip. jeff

jasonw Aug 25, 2006 12:01 PM

That would be great for them to hatch in the next couple days as I will be home "vacation" However I hope none of them have kinks. I will keep everyone up to date.

One last question for now. If denting is a tell tail sign of hatching soon, How long can I expect to see the first one emerge after the denting starts "Asuming they are ready to hatch"? It has been several days since the first egg started to dent and nothing has come out of it yet.

a few days to a week max. Mine were about 3 or 4 days after denting.

jasonw Aug 25, 2006 11:56 PM

Jason!
Chill Dude!
Its all still good!

As long as they're not dead, they probably are alive.
Think of the Wicked Witch of the East. Remember what the Munchkin Coroner siad?

Until they are stinking god-awful OMG throw those things OUT you should assume they are alive.

Please don't do what I once did (confession time) - throw out a good egg that looked dead.

Patience! Serenity!

Best Regards,

John D
