A Picture of Maggies New Home.

Here is the cage I have been working on and recently finished for our little Argentine Red .... "Maggie" (We assume she is a she.) She seems to enjoy her new digs, but we still can't seem to get her appetite up.
BTW: That's Sophie "standing" guard down below.

On the left side there is a waterfall and pool. She seems to really enjoy the swim. Under the pool is a large hide.

Here is the right side. This is the basking shelf, and the hide below. Maybe a little extravagant....but how much can you spoil your Tegus ???

that is the best tegu cage i have ever seen that is really amazing. how did you make those rock formations and get them to stay up and how did you make that waterfall. also what size is the cage and how big is your tegu

Thanks for the nice comments. Maggie is only about 16 inches long. We got her (from LLL Reptile in Oceanside CA) on Memorial day and they estimated she was 2 months at that time. (We have been having feeding probs and she only eats sporadically and very little - we're working on it.)

The cage is 7-1/2 feet wide by 2-1/2 deep and a little over 5 feet tall including the cabinets and drawers underneath.

The rock ledges (and the pool) are made of plywood, covered with metal lath (used for plastering) and the "rock" is a mix of thinset tile mortar, and Fix-all. Then I painted it, and sealed the whole thing.

I relied alot on advice and information obtained on these forums. Thanks again for the generous compliments.

Beautiful cage. Maggie's one spoiled tegu!

I can't tell from the pics -- how does it open?

MAP Aug 04, 2003 04:23 PM

There are 2 sliding glass doors on the front (1/4 inch tempered glass on rollers & tracks) - I took them out to eliminate the reflection for these pics.

Very cool. Hope Maggie enjoys being Queen of the Castle, or at least the living room.

Well done. Did you do the work yourself??? Where did you get the shelves with water and basking areas? My tegus are jealous.

Yes....I put it together in my garage. Just roamed around this, and the Cage & Habitat Design forum and benefitted from everyone else's experience, and then just made up the rest....spent a lot of time sitting/staring & planning. But had a lot of fun doing it.

(I commented on the rock shelves earlier - plywood, lath, thinset mortar & Fix-all, then sealed everything with acrylic resin.)

Looks totally fantastic! One thing regarding the appetite concern is to double check temps. Another issue could be related to shedding. Some tegus will reduce their appetite in high shed periods.

Thanks for sharing the pic!
