i am addicted to brooksi!!

derekdehaas Aug 25, 2006 02:03 PM

i just got myself in to brooksi now. when i was looking for some breeder snakes i found an ad for 1.0 anery and 0.1 hypo proven for 250 shipped so i conact this person to see if he still has them, he got back to me with the pics and i told him that i will take them. once they have arrives at my door! i pull them out of the bags i was so attarcted to anery brooksi, soon after a few days i found a other ad for the male hypo brooksi to pair up with my female hypo, this male hypo that i just got yeserday is huge! about 5 foot as thick as my wirst (well almost)!i think that anery and whitesided are my favorite morphs. i was thinking to myself that i want to start breeding them and keeping them i really love brooks. so now i have few differnt snakes to try my first time to breed next season. i would like to hear your info or thoughts about brooksi kings. thanks in advanced.

Oh this is the CLUB,they are a cool snake can be a lil agressive when FOOD is on their mind, but rarely bite agressivly if ever. a hungry brooks will fly half way out of their encloser when asuming they are being fed but after that explosion you can grasp them comfortably with your hand(open) not to be confused with a mouse. then i feed em and talk to em,yadda yadda.Chris
anery x hypo will proce normal lookers tha are Het.(hidden carrier on those genes) for both and a chance of a GHOST= homozygous hypo anery when those babies are bred. L8r......oh heres "ol yeller" on the carpet

hey i have seen your pics! my male is just like yours in size. yes my anery is cool but my smaller female hypo seems nippy but she just laid eggs for the guy 4 weeks ago, so i am feeding her every 4 to 5 days to gain, she even bit herself when i was taking her out of the temp. cage while i clean her home cage lol thanks.

Hey, sort of changing the subject but more in line with what you brought up. Maybe I've been under a rock or something, but I was in Lowes the other day and I saw these 2 x 4 foot sheets of plastic peg board. I think might be PVC or something. It got me to thinking about all the uses I could think of for it with herp keeping. Would be nice for a tub lid like that- totally washable, etc.
And yes, I am an addict.
Patternless Goini is my poison...

That peg board sounds good,

i tried drilling about 200 holes into the lid of a contico tub it just got real week and cracked.

I think the container ChrisD uses with the screen is for mice only. I used to have several setups like that for mice breeding colonies. Sometimes modifying the screen top with an indentation to hold mouse chow and a water bottle.

I still have some. I will see about getting pics and posting.

In them meantime... Florida kings rock on!

h-y-b-r-i-d Aug 25, 2006 06:03 PM

cool pic.

Thanks for the info bluerosy.

iv also seen photos that henry dean has posted with snakes in tubs with some sort of mesh cover, but cant remember if it was plasic mesh or what.

i like the idea of the large vented area, but wondered if their could be an issue with nose rubbing before i give it a go.

Cheers.

I got it. Just about everybody on here is addicted to snakes. He was making a joke about a support group like AA but for snakes. I am also addicted. It stated out with 1 or 2, then it was 3 or 4, then... You guys know the rest of the story. My wife compares me to those crazy cat ladies that keep hundreds of cats in their homes.

derekdehaas Aug 25, 2006 04:57 PM

oh now i get it!! jeezzz i feel stuipd lol, just so you know that i sometimes dont get it thats all or i dont understand some jokes (deaf world) thats why, i am just used being around with deaf people, sorry about that. anyway let's get back to snakes, i will post some pics of my kings soon after my fiance buy herself a new camera since the old one was lost. is there any chance for the king getting eaten by other during breeding? that's what been bugging me because i know that kings can be cannibalism. thanks.

Anytime putting kings together even for breeding you should keep an eye on them just to be on the safe side...

And yes Im an Addict as well, just maybe not brooks, Kings and milks in general.

Iv had the bad luck of leaving a pair of cali copulating and returning to find the female stuffed to the hilt, the entire process of me leaving the room and the female scoffing her mate was about 15 mins.

Im an Addict, kings, milks, corns and everything inbetween.

well i been addicted to snakes for 8 years now but as for kings i am addicted to brooks and mex black king. how long should any snake to be used in breeding should stay together? i am still learning about alot of things that involves breeding. so are you saying that i need to stand in front of the cage or rack and keep a eye on the kings breeding till its seems over?

h-y-b-r-i-d Aug 25, 2006 05:24 PM

yes just keep your eye on them, if a female isnt ready or isnt in the mood anything could happen.

you know just incase you have to split them up.

oh ok thanks, also if one of the snakes arent in the mood then just try again other day to pair up again? and i think i know thats it's normal for most snakes to bite during breeding? (still learning) lol

h-y-b-r-i-d Aug 25, 2006 05:38 PM

Yes just keep introducing them until the female is receptive, and love bites are pretty common with kings.

I'm in love with brooksi as well - but I like the "common wild" phase more than the morphs, though I have to admit, the morphs are quite stunning - and I would LOVE to have some. So much I would LOVE to have - if I had the space and money, I'd try to rival Jetzen

Maybe in time ...

At some point, I hope to hook up with someone who lives in their natural range, and see if I can captive hatched (from wc gravid female) neonates, ideally 2.2 from two different mothers.

I think I'll have to wait until '08 to do that though, next season I want to add splendida and s. ga eastern hatchlings, and perhaps some more cal kings (cal kings are my favorite getula).
