Are they yawning or shedding? When my RETFs awaken, they spend the first few minutes shedding..which entails opening and closing their mouths as they draw the shed skin into their mouths.
Mine have strange call that sound like the penguin from the Batman movies...but no barking.
I do have Green Tree frogs that sound exactly like our small dogs, however.

it could be eating a shed. ive never noticed any skin. do they shed daily, though?

and that sound...what is if for? i have heard that some animals make sounds when they first wake up to orient themselves in relation to others of the same species. could this be the reason? and why only the males?
